Ms. Alison Rothwell has a first Class Honours Degree in Music (BA) from the Waterford Institute of Technology, and comes from a very musical family in Tinahely, County Wicklow.
The Leaving cert. involves a lot of composition and harmony questions. Alison majored in composition in her final year at college after 3 years of studying advanced composition and harmony, under composers Eric Sweeney and Marion Ingoldsby. Alison is passionate about composition and think it's a very important part of creativity for Leaving Certificate music students. Composition is the most difficult part of the LC exam and therefore requires extra focus.
- Alison has a strong background in Traditional Irish music, she plays tin whistle, button accordion and bodhran. She studied traditional music history in college, covering the background and history, and the different styles of traditional music, which further qualifies her for Leaving Certificate tuition.
- Alison also has a background in wind ensemble. She has played clarinet in two orchestras; The FCJ. Orchestra under Geroid Grant and The W.I.T. Youth Orchestra under Deirdre Scanlan. The latter ensemble toured the east coast of the USA.
- Alison is an accomplished pianist with experience in solo recital and as accompanist, and can lend these skills to LC practicals.
She will be teaching piano, advanced theory (free class) and preparatory classes in Junior and Leaving Certificate curriculi. Alison will be available to teach from 4:30pm at the school between Tuesday and Thursday as well as Saturday. As with all tutors, we aim to condense teaching hours as much as possible, but will endeavour to maintain the schedule as it is if that suits you.
